LibraryLinkNJ Funds QandANJ Thru 12/31/11

9/22 - At the recommendation of the NJLA Virtual Reference Task Force, the NJLA Board asked the New Jersey State Library to continue to fund QandANJ until the end of the year. With funds already allocated and the threat of a $400,000 IMLS federal budget cut, State Librarian Norma Blake asked the LibraryLinkNJ Executive Board to support NJLA's request. On September 15, the LibraryLinkNJ Board approved the use of up to $40,000 to fund and manage the QandANJ service until December 31, 2011. NJLA will develop and implement a process to solicit volunteer QandANJ service payments from New Jersey libraries for the three month extension period Oct-Dec 2011 for reimbursement to LibraryLinkNJ. Concurrently, the NJLA Virtual Reference Task Force is working to develop and find funding for a new virtual reference service for January 2012.

LibraryLinkNJ announces that the QandANJ virtual reference service will continue until December 31, 2011. Reduced hours of service (TBD) will be detailed on the QandANJ website, <http://www.qandanj.org/> http://www.qandanj.org/ on October 1. There is a signed QandANJ Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between LibraryLinkNJ and the New Jersey Library Association regarding the cooperative's primary responsibilities and NJLA's primary responsibilities during this final three-month extension period.
