Patrons should be able to participate fully and have access to library / History Center resources regardless of disability. The library and History Center offer a range of services and assistive technologies to help meet this goal:

  • Local delivery, Library-By-Mail and Remote Access for Home-Bound Patrons - For local delivery and pickup (Avalon only), please call 609-967-7155 or contact us by email. If your email is delivered directly to your house, you can order library materials to be mailed to you by using our online catalog's "Hold To Mail" option, emailing your request or calling us on the phone. There is also a broad rangeof audiobooks, eBooks, videos and music available for streaming and download through our website (http://www.avalonfreelibrary.org)

  • The library and History Center has access to three mobile assisted listening systems. Please let us know in advance if you are planning to attend a program and need this service to insure that the proper equipment is available for you.

  • The library and History Center will provide CART and signing services during programs if assisted listening devices do not meet the patrons needs. However, do to the scarcity of resources in Cape May and contiguous counties, advanced notice is necessary in order to find and engage these services.

  •  Avalon Free Public Library is an "Outspoken Library", an affiliate of the New Jersey State Library's Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC). If you have problems reading printed books due to physical impairment, reading disability or vision challenge, we can help conect you with services which include:

    • Audiobooks

    • Audio Magazines

    • The Library of Congress's Braille and Audiobook Downloads (BARD)

    • Digital book players and apps

    • News reading services such as Audiovision and Newsline

  • The Outspoken Library Computer Kiosk can connect you to the above resources and services. It is also loaded with Sitecue software which will facilitate your internet experience by magnifying text and converting selected text to speech output.
